[Raleigh, NC] — At 5:30 PM local time, on December 17th, the night before the U.S. House of Representatives votes to impeach Donald Trump for his high crimes and misdemeanors, activists will gather at Bicentennial Plaza as part of the nationwide “Nobody Is Above the Law” rallies. The rally and march in Raleigh will be one of about four hundred actions occurring nationwide. Well over 1,000 people are expected.
The mobilization is part of a massive, grassroots effort to ensure Congress holds Donald Trump accountable for using military aid to pressure Ukraine to interfere in our 2020 elections. Protesters will demand that the House of Representatives fulfills its constitutional duty by impeaching Donald Trump and that the Senate remove him from office for attempting to rig the 2020 elections. Congress must show that no one—including the criminal in the White House—is above the law.
Protesters will gather at Bicentennial Plaza at 5:30pm for a rally, then a short march around the Capitol Building for those who are able (vigil for those who are not), then another rally at about 7:00pm. There will be creative signs, costumes, songs, and chants.
“The impeachment inquiry has clearly shown that the president of the United States has used the power of his office to pressure a weaker foreign government to help him personally in the 2020 election. This abuse of power cannot go unchecked! Our Senators must do their job of defending the constitution,” said Karen Ziegler, lead organizer for the Tuesdays With Tillis group that has been rallying around Senator Thom Tillis’ Raleigh office for over 150 weeks.
