Support HR1, the For the People Act

November 12, 2019

Dear Senator Tillis,

It is time for the Senate to vote on HR1, For the People Act of 2019:  To expand Americans’ access to the ballot box, reduce the influence of big money in politics, and strengthen ethics rules for public servants, and for other purposes.  Do you have the courage to stand up and let M. Mitch know that a campaign finance and ethics overhaul is actually how many of you on the Hill are going to stay out of jail?  I hope you have a lawyer and I hope she’s good.

Voting, Money In Politics and Ethics.  Where do you stand?

Voting:  No need to go further than your ardent defense of voter ID laws, your endlessly stunning commitment to discriminatory practices.

Money In Politics:  $7,321,115.00 in your re-election bank.  We know about the NRA. Yet others remain not so evident.  Is Cambridge Analytica back on the job? Oh sorry, it closed last year in scandal mode.  Who’s your upcoming Big Data company? HR1 will at least make you vet the next group you use.

Ethics:  Your curious stand on information about a political opponent offered by a foreign adversary (yes sure, alert the FBI but oh heavens corroborate the information as well) does not fall into some gray area.  It affects the security of the country. Please pass that on when you’re getting a little more cash from 45.

HR1 also requires candidates for President and Vice-President to submit 10 years of tax returns.

Our eternal wish:  Senator Tillis, do your job. With your heart as a guide all these answers will come easily.  You are forgetting who you are. You are forgetting who we are.
