Letters to the Senator

October 22, 2019

Dear Senator Tillis,

The president has surrounded himself with criminals and commits high crimes and misdemeanors repeatedly in public.  He is corrupt to the core, and has appointed corrupt people to serve on his cabinet, most of them selected for their willingness to dismantle the very agencies they are supposed to lead.  Partisan voter suppression is rampant, and interference with our elections by foreign governments is invited and occurs in plain sight. Our intelligence agencies and dedicated public servants are contradicted and silenced and threatened.  The Attorney General of the United States is using his office to traffic in false conspiracy theories so that he can punish the political enemies of the president. The president blatantly mocks and disregards the rule of law.

Where will it end?  Meanwhile, you who have been charged with defending the Constitution instead continue to parrot the lies and obstruction of the president and his cronies.  Meanwhile, you think the most important thing you can do is to sign an amicus brief for a florist who thinks it is her 1st Amendment right to refuse to make a flower arrangement for queer people.  This was emphatically not what our founders intended by putting “freedom of religion” in the Constitution, and you know it.

It is not too late to decide to be on the right side of history.  There is no way you can win the next election except by becoming as much of a criminal as the president.  Why not do the right thing, and actually represent the people of North Carolina, and actually defend the Constitution of the United States?  We demand that you call for the House bill about Syria to come to the floor of the Senate. We demand that you impeach this president.
